Best Dressed: 2017 Academy Awards

The 2017 Academy Awards were certainly memorable: Jimmy Kimmel made fun of Matt Damon, candy parachutes fell from the sky, Jennifer Aniston teared up over Bill Paxton, and Warren Beatty became the most talked about man in Hollywood, ending the Oscars in a moment no one could have predicted.

While the world ponders what exactly happened in the Best Picture category, we are still gawking over the incredible looks worn by some of Hollywood’s finest. Here are GIFF’s favorite red carpet looks from the 2017 Academy Awards!

Best Dressed: Taraji P. Henson

Taraji P. Henson was a KNOCKOUT at the Oscars this year. Representing her Academy Award-nominated film Hidden Figures, Henson looked stunning in a dark blue, velvet Alberto Ferretti gown and Nirav Modi diamond choker. Channeling a little bit of old Hollywood glamour while still being sexy and sophisticated, Taraji P. Henson made our jaws drop when she appeared on the red carpet. Absolutely stunning!

Best Red Carpet RED: Ruth Negga & Viola Davis

Red is always a powerful color on the Oscar’s red carpet, and this year there were several red ensembles that demanded attention. We couldn’t pick just one red look as both of these ladies looked flawless. Viola Davis, who won her first Academy Award for her performance in Fences, wore Armani Prive, while Best Actress nominee Ruth Negga wore custom Valentino. Both of these women delivered incredible performances in 2016 and we are excited to see them in future films.

Best Trend: Metallics: Olivia Coppola, Emma Stone, Isabelle Huppert

Olivia Coppola looked stunning in a silver-beaded Marchesa gown with fringe detail. Marchesa partnered with Stella Artois and Water.org to create this unforgettable gown. The dress incorporates pieces of the iconic Stella Artois chalice into the design, to bring awareness to the global water crisis. Fashion and philanthropy, we are always on board!

Emma Stone was the belle of the ball at the 2017 Academy Awards, channeling the 1920s in a gold Givenchy Haute Couture gown. Stone took home the Oscar for Best Actress for her performance in La La Land. We expect to see more nominations for Stone in the future, maybe even giving Meryl a run for her money.

Isabelle Huppert was the definition of timeless elegance at the 2017 Academy Awards. Nominated for her haunting performance in Elle, Isabelle look flawless in a Armani Prive belted gown. While we loved the dress, our favorite part of her look was the Repossi diamond lateral ear cuff, which paired beautifully with her simple makeup and hair. Ç’est Magnifique!

Best Couple: Justin Timberlake & Jessica Biel

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel are the epitome of relationship goals. Flawless on the red carpet, Jessica Biel wore a Kaufmanfranco gold-gilded column gown with Tiffany & Co. jewels. Gold is always a good choice for the Academy Awards, and Biel did not disappoint. Justin Timberlake debuted a new hairstyle, along with a very dapper Tom Ford tux. But our love for this couple soared when Justin danced with his wife in the aisle of the Dolby Theater during his opening performance of his Oscar-nominated song “Can’t Stop The Feeling”. If every awards show opened with a Justin Timberlake performance, we would be forever grateful.

Best Dressed (Male): Mahershala Ali

While Moonlight winning Best Picture at the 2017 Academy Awards may have been a surprise, Mahershala Ali winning Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film was not. Looking impeccable in head-to-toe Ermenegildo Zegna Couture, this award was well deserved for the actor, who also appeared in the Oscar-nominated film Hidden Figures. This win topped off an incredible week for Mahershala Ali, who became a father for the first time 4 days prior to the Oscars. Congrats on your baby girl!

Best Dressed Kid!: Sunny Pawar

There was no question that the cutest kid of the night was Sunny Pawar, who played young Saroo in the Oscar-nominated film Lion. From his appearance on the red carpet (sneakers!) to his reenactment of the infamous The Lion King scene with Jimmy Kimmel during the broadcast, we were in love and hope to see much more of Sunny Pawar in the future!

Special shout out to GIFF’s 2016 Changemaker Trudie Styler for looking beautiful on the red carpet at the 2017 Academy Awards. Trudie was there to support her husband, Sting, whose song “The Empty Chair” was nominated for Best Original Song.
